General building & carpentry

Iwerks Construction Company frames, finishes and remodels houses in Arroyo Grande and across the Five Cities. One California license, one person on the job, and the same name on the work from the first stud to the last piece of trim.
Call (805) 766-3000Dave Iwerks holds a single California license, B General Building, and works on his own. These are the three kinds of work his own photographs show, not a list of services copied off somewhere else.
Vaulted ceilings, headers and stud walls. The work that decides whether a room feels square in ten years, and the only part of a house nobody photographs once it is covered up.
Cabinets, doors, trim and reclaimed timber. Different work from framing and a different kind of patience, since every gap shows and nothing can be hidden behind drywall.
Decking, railings and stairs built to sit level against ground that moves and take sun and salt air year after year without going soft.
A deck on a slope is a patience problem. The boards have to run dead straight while the ground under them falls away, the step has to land at a height a foot finds without looking, and the rail has to hold a line all the way around a pool that shows up every error.
This one is photographed halfway through, forms and cords still on the ground. Most contractors only show the last day.
Reclaimed boards are harder to hang than new ones. No two are the same thickness or the same color, so the run has to be laid out on the floor and worked out before a single one is fixed, and it still has to line through against a doorway that is perfectly square.
Framing and finish carpentry are not the same trade. Getting both from one person is the reason the reveal around that opening is even.
4.9 out of five from eight reviews on Google. These are quoted as they were written, names and all.
“Dave is a true professional. Unlike other tradesmen, he showed up on time when he said he would, and charged a very fair price for his services. His moral compass is calibrated with integrity and his business ethics are beyond reproach. I would recommend Iwerks construction in a heartbeat.”
“Dave Iwerks does a great job! He’s trustworthy, reliable and communicative. He knows how to do just about anything, and when it comes to ordering material, he knows great local places you can rely on. I recommend Dave and give him 5 stars!”
“I can’t give David a 10 star because it’s not an option. But if it were that’s what I would rate him. He has done several projects for us and is always on time very fair in his pricing and puts 110% into any job he is doing.”
“Dave is not only calm under pressure he is a craftsman at his core. If your job requires a builder who will work with you to achieve your vision Dave is your guy.”
Anyone can check this in about thirty seconds, and you should.
Verified against the California State License Board record on September 16, 2026. Check it yourself at cslb.ca.gov. The record carries no additional status line, no suspensions, no bond cancellation date and no disclosable complaints. The bond has been on file since January 2023. There is no workers’ compensation policy listed and none is required: the license is registered as exempt on the grounds that he has no employees, which he certified to the board in March 2025. That is the honest reading of a one-person business, and it is why nothing on this page claims a crew.
Dave, you don’t know me. I’m Matthew, and I build websites for contractors on the Central Coast. I built this one before asking, because it is easier to look at a real page than to listen to a pitch.
Here is what I noticed, and it is the whole reason I picked you. Your Google listing has a 4.9 out of eight reviews, and people write about you by name. Where the website goes, it says “Add website”. Underneath that it says “Add hours”. So somebody who finds you the way most people find a builder gets a phone number, no idea when you work, and nowhere to look at what you have built.
The second thing I noticed is one you can fix this week for free. Your reviews are good and they all stopped. Seven of the eight were written around the same time about three years ago and nothing has been added since. That is not a reflection on the work, it usually just means nobody asked. Every customer who has been happy since then is a review you did not collect, and that is worth more to you than anything on this page.
Everything here is yours. All three photographs came off your own Google listing, and so did the logo at the top. The colors are sampled out of your own pictures rather than picked out of the air, which is why the whole page is the color of douglas fir. The license panel is your real record from the state, copied field for field.
Nothing here is stock and nothing is invented. I have kept it to one person throughout, with no mention of a crew, because the state record says you are exempt from workers’ compensation on the grounds that you have no employees, and I would rather match that than flatter it. If a detail is wrong, it is wrong because I read it wrong, and I’d want to know.
$950 flat if you want it, live in about a week on your own domain, and you own everything: the domain, the files, all of it. If it is not for you I will take it down, no hard feelings.
